\u201cTo commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first One-Day International, five ODI cricketers of the decade have been named in the 2021 edition of the Wisden Cricketers\u2019 Almanack<\/strong><\/span>,\u201d the reference book, often described as Bible of Cricket, stated.
\nVirat Kohli<\/strong> has been named Wisden Almanack\u2019s ODI Cricketer<\/strong> of the 2010s.<\/p>\n

ODI Cricketer of the 2010s<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One cricketer has been named for each of the decades between 1971 and 2021, with India captain Virat Kohli<\/a> <\/strong>taking the award for the 2010s. He made more than 11,000 runs in the ten-year stretch, averaging over 60 and scoring 42 hundreds.\u00a0The 32-year-old Kohli, who made his ODI debut in August 2008 against Sri Lanka, is among the finest batsmen of all time, and has amassed a staggering 12,169 runs from 254 ODIs. The decade began with him winning the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011, and he added a Champions Trophy title two years later, top scoring in the final. In five global ICC 50-over tournaments in the decade, Kohli and India never fell before the semi-final stage.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the year, Kohli was named as the ICC Male Cricketer of the Decade and the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Decade.<\/p>\n

“My only intention was to make winning contributions for the team and I just strive to do that in every game.<\/strong><\/em> Stats just become the byproduct of what you want to do on the field,” Kohli had said after winning the award.<\/p>\n

ODI Cricketer of the 2000s<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Muttiah Muralitharan<\/strong><\/span> was named the ODI Cricketer of the 2000s. He helped Sri Lanka make the World Cup final in 2011 and claimed 335 wickets in the decade, more than any other bowler has in a single decade.<\/p>\n

ODI Cricketer of the 1990s<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Sachin Tendulkar<\/span><\/strong> was named the ODI Cricketer of the 1990s. He revolutionised the role of the opener in this period, starting with a pyrotechnic 49-ball 82 in his first innings at the top of the order against New Zealand in March 1994. In 1998, he made nine ODI hundreds, more than any other batsman in a single calendar year ever has.<\/p>\n

ODI Cricketer of the 1980s<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For the 1980s, Kapil Dev<\/span><\/strong> was the cricketer to take the award. His most famous moment in that decade was the catch to dismiss Viv Richards in the 1983 World Cup final, giving India a momentous upset against a West Indies team gunning for a third straight title. He also claimed more wickets than any other in the decade, and scored at the highest strike-rate of any batsman with more than 1000 runs.<\/p>\n

ODI Cricketer of the 1970s<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Vivian Richards<\/strong><\/span> himself claimed the prize in the 1970s, the first decade of ODI cricket. West Indies were the dominant side of the format\u2019s early years, with Richards\u2019 century in the 1979 Cricket World Cup final giving them a second successive triumph.<\/p>\n

Ben Stokes<\/strong><\/span> was declared the \u2018Leading Cricketer in the World\u2019 for the second year in a row.
\n\u201cHis haul of 641 Test runs at 58 in the calendar year was more than anyone else, while his 19 wickets cost just 18 apiece. He did it all against a backdrop of personal tragedy. His father, Ged, died in December at the age of 65,\u201d Wisden editor Lawrence Booth said. Stokes broke the monopoly of Virat Kohli and won the award for first time.<\/p>\n

Wisden Five Cricketers of the Year<\/strong><\/h3>\n

West Indian all-rounder Jason Holder<\/span><\/strong>, Pakistani wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan<\/span><\/strong>, England’s emerging stars Dom Sibley<\/span> <\/strong>and Zak Crawley<\/span><\/strong>, and Kent’s 44-yr old Darren Stevens<\/span><\/strong> have been named as the Wisden Five Cricketers of the Year.<\/p>\n
