2008 champions Rajasthan Royals had yet another disappointing journey in the last season as they finished their journey at second last spot of the points table. They were able to win only 5 matches out of 14 matches. Except for the skipper Sanju Samson, other teammates never looked in control throughout the season. The team management wants to forget this season and will enter the auction room looking forward. Let’s take a look at Rajasthan Royals IPL 2022 Mega Auction strategy .

— Rajasthan Royals (@rajasthanroyals) November 30, 2021
Ahead of next season, Rajasthan Royals retained their skipper Sanju Samson (14cr), English hard-hitter Jos Butler(10cr), and uncapped 19-year old youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal(4 cr). They have 62 cr pursue to select players from the upcoming mega auction. Keeping in mind the same, now look at which players Rajasthan Royals might target in the upcoming mega auction.
Rajasthan Royals Auction strategy 2022
Rajasthan Royals’ target players – Batsmen
In the batting section, they already have the likes of experienced Jos Butler and Sanju Samson in their squad. Alongside these experienced stars, they also retained U-19 star Yashasvi Jaiswal to groom him for the upcoming season. They had serious problems in the middle order. They need to add some fire powers in the middle order. Aggressive Aussie Chris Lynn might be their good choice. He did not get some chance to express himself in the Mumbai Indians but when he used to play for Kolkata Knight Riders, he batted with a strike rate of 140. England’s Dawid Malan can also grab the attention of RR. He played for Punjab Kings last year in India’s leg but withdraw his name from the 2nd leg. He has been able to kept the No. 1 spot in ICC T20I rankings for so many calendar years. He can be the perfect purchase for any team in the mega auction.
Rajasthan Royals’ target players – Wicket-Keeper
Predictably the team management of Royals would not give much interest to the wicket-keeper as they have two trusted hands behind the stumps- skipper Sanju Samson and Jos Butler. Maybe they might select any domestic level cricketer as a backup of them.
Rajasthan Royals’ target players – All-rounder
There were two big names in the all-rounder section of RR – Ben Stokes and Chris Morris but shockingly they did not retain any of them ahead of next season. Stokes did not play last season due to some personal reason. From the auction last year RR bought Chris Morris with a record 16 cr INR but he didn’t keep the value in the ground and failed to impress badly. Ahead of IPL2022, they might bring back Ben Stokes in their squad. They might target Shakib Al Hasan, Krunal Pandya to make the strong unit. Krunal Pandya was one of those regular players for Mumbai Indians since 2017. He can also make some quick runs in the lower order and with the ball, he was very economical also.
Rajasthan Royals’ target players – Bowlers
The bowling unit of Royals was contained full of young blood like – Karthik Tyagi, Chetan Sakariya, and Shreyas Gopal with some experienced players Jaydev Unadkat, Mustafizur Rahman. But somehow the bowling unit failed to execute their plans in the field. Their star bowler Jofra Archer missed both legs of IPL 2021 due to his injury. To make a strong bowling unit ahead of IPL2022, RR might target this England player as he can bowl at any stage of the match with 140+kmph speed continuously. He picked 20 wickets in 14 matches with an economy of 6.56 in the IPL. They might give interest to the Kiwi speed star Kyle Jemison. This 6’7″ player might be an asset for RR for the upcoming season. Last year RCB purchased him with 15 Cr but he did not give some chance to perform. He played only 9 matches and picked 9 wickets. He also scored 65 runs with the willow for RCB. Deepak Chahar might be their other choice in the Mega auction. This powerplay specialist bowler, who was released by CSK, claimed 14 wickets last year. In domestic cricket, Deepak plays for the Rajasthan state as the pitch condition of Jaipur is well known to him. While most of the bowlers are expensive in the powerplay overs, the economy rate of Deepak is just 7.27. he can swing the bowl in both directions. He will boost their bowling department.
