These are some frequently asked questions about RBI Assistant Exam.

Can I appear from any state in the country for RBI Assistant exam?

Yes, you can but you need to clear the Language Proficiency Test (LPT) for that. So for example, if you appear from Bihar, then you need to know either know Maithili or Hindi.

What is the level of LPT?

Candidates applying for post in a particular recruiting Office should be proficient in the language (i.e. know to read, write, speak and understand the language) of the state/ any of the states falling under the recruiting Office. This is what the notification says, it is very clear that you need to know the language really well. It is not advisable to attempt exam from other states with unknown language just because higher number seats are there.

What is the salary of RBI Assistant ?

Assistants will draw a starting basic pay of ₹ 20,700/- per month in the scale of ₹ 20700 – 1200 (3) – 24300 – 1440 (4) – 30060 – 1920 (6) – 41580 – 2080 (2) – 45740 – 2370 (3) – 52850 – 2850 – 55700 (20 years) and other allowances, viz. Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance, Transport Allowance etc., as admissible from time to time. At present, initial monthly Gross emoluments for Assistants will be approximately ₹ 45,050/-.

*House Allowance of 15% of Pay will be paid to employees additionally, if they are not staying in Bank’s accommodation.

Since the pay revision recently happened in RBI, it is the exact pay with some minor upgrades once you join. Apart from this you will get monetary benefits of around Rupees 8000/- per month.

Whether housing accommodation is provided to Assistants?

It depends on the availability. In Small centres you will get the accommodation easily while in other centers you may have to wait.

What are the promotion aspects of RBI Assistants?

Assistants can appear for Grade A officer examination after 3 years of service. It mostly depends on the number of vacancies. Most assistants will end their career as AMs because they don’t take promotions and some of them getting early promotion can reach upto GM too in exceptional cases. A good lot reaches up to AGM.

Can Final year students appear for RBI Assistant?

No, they need final year marksheet as on February 1st 2022.

Best Centre to apply?

As it is a low salary entry level job, it is always advisable to appear from your home centre irrespective of the number of vacancies. In case, there are no vacancy in your state then you can apply from another state.

For Hindi medium students which centre is the Best?

Your home! Because, except Mumbai the cut-off in previous year examination was more or less same. This year the vacancies in Mumbai are lesser compared to previous year, so bright possibility is that the cut-off will also increase there too.

I am a Probationary Officer in a PSB , should I try for RBI Assistant?

Probationary Officers have tough profile and lot of transfers in their job. The job is good no doubt but not everyone enjoys that. So, in case someone wants stability and decent career growth they can join RBI even as an assistant. The salary will be lesser but stability and peace is way better.

What is the Job profile of RBI Assistant?

The job profile of RBI assistant is similar to Grade A officers. The only difference is that they are not allowed to go on outstation official visits except cash remittances. They have to analyze reports, make PPTs, make notes, take care of receptions, passing of bills, calling banks and other regulated entities for information, filing, make arrangements of meetings, take care of cash counters, and so on. It mostly depends on the department and the section where the assistant is posted.

Can I get transferred as an Assistant ?

Mostly, RBI transfers officers. Assistants can remain at the same centre till they are not officers.

Is it good for ladies ?

Yes, in case spouse has a business or working in a state government job or working in IT/Finance hubs like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai. Also, if they are not looking for frequent transfers due to family engagements.
