IPL 2022 : The latest edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has already started. The opening game of IPL 2022 was between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). After IPL 2021 was postponed due to Covid-19 in India, the BCCI decided to hold the remaining matches in UAE. This year, the IPL is taking place in India again. The fans are excited to watch their favorite players and franchises back in the T20 format. However, they have to deal with a huge blow as some of the big players will not feature in the IPL 2022. Why Dawid Malan is not playing in IPL 2022?
England star Dawid Malan is not playing for Punjab Kings in IPL 2021 because he has withdrawn from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021’s UAE leg. Malan along with Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes has decided to pull out of the second phase of IPL 2021. Although, the reason behind Malan pulling out of IPL is not clear but the franchise has said that the 34-year-old needs to take some time off to be with his family ahead of the T20 World Cup and the Ashes. Dawid Malan was a part of England Test squad against India.
After the cancellation of fifth test match between England and India, English and Indian players participating in IPL were supposed to reach UAE from Manchester together in a bubble to bubble transfer. However due to COVID-19 cases in the Indian camp, all franchises were forced to make their own arrangements for their respective players. Due to positive cases in the camp, players arriving in UAE from England Tour have to do a six-day quarantine. That might be the reason behind Bairstow, Woakes, and Malan pulling out.

Punjab franchise have included South African cricketer Aiden Markram as a replacement for Dawid Malan. This will be the first stint for Aiden Markram in the IPL.
Dawid Malan for Punjab Kings
Dawid Malan is the world’s top-ranked Twenty20 batsman. The English batsman has scored 1123 runs in 30 matches in the shortest format. His highest score is 103. He has registered a ton and 11 half-centuries. Malan made his IPL debut in this year only when he was purchased by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2021 auction. Despite being the world’s number 1 T20 batsman, Malan didn’t get chances in the playing XI. He played only one match for PBKS in which he scored 26 runs. After that the IPL was postponed midway due to a rise in COVID-19 cases within the bio-secure bubble.
Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021
SRH has been struggling to perform in IPL 2021. In the first leg of the tournament, they managed to win just 1 out of 7 matches. They are at the bottom of the table. Now, after the news of Jonny Bairstow pulling out of IPL 2021, it will be more difficult for the Hyderabad based franchise.
SRH also changed their captain in the first leg of IPL 2021 after the franchise lost five out of their six games played. Kane Williamson took over the captaincy for the Sunrisers Hyderabad from David Warner in the middle of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
