Why is Pat Cummins not playing for KKR in IPL 2022?
KKR purchased Australian Pat Cummins for a whopping 15.5 crores in IPL 2020 and since then, he has been the backbone of the bowling department of the franchise. Cummins has also proved himself with the bat. However, the Australian will not play in the second leg of the tournament. This is because his wife is pregnant and is due to give birth in around September or October. Cummins confirmed that he will not be available for IPL 2021 second leg in one of the Q&A sessions of his official YouTube channel in August.
Pat Cummins is not playing IPL and therefore Kolkata has signed New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2021 to fill the spot left by star all-rounder Pat Cummins in the squad. Southee last played for RCB in IPL.
Brendon McCullum, Head Coach of KKR said the following on replacement of Pat Cummins with Tim Southee:
“We are delighted to have Southee in our ranks. He is a proven match-winner and a welcome addition to the already strong pace attack of KKR. With Cummins being unavailable we wanted to add experience and leadership to our bowling group and Southee is the ideal man for the job.”
