Why Ishan Kishan is not playing today in T20 World Cup 2022?

The Indian team management showed faith in Ishan Kishan as an opener by giving him opportunity in a lot of matches. At a point of time, it was looking like the selectors have picked the opener to partner Rohit Sharma. However, as soon as KL Rahul returned to the squad, Ishan Kishan lost his place. It was quite unfortunate as he didn’t even get a place in the reserve players for T20 World Cup 2022.

Why Ishan Kishan is not in Asia Cup 2022?

Ishan Kishan did not get a place in the Indian Squad for Asia Cup 2022 because Kl Rahul returned to the squad. In the beginning, it seemed like Ishan Kishan was in the plans of Indian selectors for the shortest format because he was in the playing 11 for many bilateral T20 series before the Asia Cup. However, he was not included in Asia Cup squad because there were only 15 spots and there is already plenty of players at the opening spot in Team India.

Why Ishan Kishan is not playing today?

Mumbai Indians have decided to drop Ishan Kishan from the playing XI because he has not been getting enough runs with the bat. He has been totally out of form in the second leg of IPL 2021. The poor form of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav is creating pressure on the middle-order. In the IPL so far, the young batsman has failed to build the innings despite getting good starts by the openers. His bad form is the reason that Ishan Kishan is not playing in IPL 2021.

Another solid reason behind the non-selection of Ishan in MI’s playing XI is consistent form of Saurabh Tiwary. The veteran batsman is a part of Mumbai Indians for a long time but he has not received sufficient opportunities due to presence of big names in the squad. But whenever he got a chance, Tiwary has proved himself. Therefore, the team management decided to replace Ishan Kishan with Saurabh Tiwary.

In eight matches of IPL 2021, Ishan Kishan has managed to score just 107 runs at a poor average and strike rate of 13.37 and 86.99 respectively. Tiwary, who has played few matches this season, has a much better stats than him in this season.

Ishan Kishan was the top scorer of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020 and due to this he was selected in Indian team also. It is a matter of concern and forces us to think that if a player is not good enough to make into the playing XI of Mumbai Indians then would it be justifiable to include him in the Indian squad for T20 World Cup 2021.
