Gill has immense talent to become a regular name in the playing 11 of team India. However, he still needs to prove himself in the shortest format of the game. Gill has played only one T20I for India. His strike rate hasn’t been that great to get him a spot in the Indian squad for T20 World Cup 2022. Apart from that, it is quite difficult to replace either one of KL Rahul or Rohit Sharma.

Gill has so far appeared in 11 Tests, six ODIs, and only one T20 International match for India. He is a talented youngster but he is yet to get a regular spot in Indian team. There are already plenty of openers in the team with the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan.
Indian Team is all set to travel to Ireland to play two T20 International matches in Dublin. This would be India’s first visit to Ireland since 2018. The two team have played against each other only on three occasions in T20s and it was Indian team who emerged victorious on all occasions. The 1st match of T20 series will take place on June 26 while the 2nd match will take place on June 28. Hardik Pandya has been appointed the captain of Indian Team for the series against Ireland.
Why Shubman Gill is not selected in Indian Team against Ireland?
Shubman Gill is not included in the T20 Squad against Ireland because he has already been a part of Indian Test Team which is set to play the final Test match of the five-match Test series against England at the Edgbaston, Birmingham starting from July 1. BCCI have confirmed that Gill alongside Rohit Sharma will be opening the batting for the side. Earlier it was KL Rahul who was set to open the innings but he was ruled out of the series after suffering an injury. In his absence, Gill is most likely to get a chance because Mayank Agarwal is also not available.
