Portugal coach Fernando Santos named his 26-man squad for Euro 2020 on Thursday. Sporting Lisbon youngster Pedro Goncalves was handed a maiden Portugal call-up. Cristiano Ronaldo will lead a talented Portugal squad that will try to defend its European Championship title.
“I have great confidence in my players and I have the conviction that Portugal is a title candidate,” Santos said.
Players who may feel unlucky to miss out include defenders Ricardo Pereira and Domingos Duarte. One can say that Portugal has the most devastating set of attacking midfield and forward options in the whole competition.
The 36-year-old Ronaldo will be playing in his fifth straight European Championship. He need six goals to break ranian Ali Daei’s all-time international record of 103 goals and level with Michel Platini’s record mark of nine European Championship strikes.
Portugal are in Group F along with Hungary, Germany and France.
