Why Philippe Coutinho is not included in Brazil Squad for World Cup 2022?
Coutinho was at his prime at Liverpool. However, his decision to join Barcelona destroyed his career. He miserably failed at Barcelona and struggled to get play time. He moved to Bayern Munich on loan. In both the clubs he failed to impress. In the end, he joined Aston Villa and returned to Premier League. His level of game is quite low now. Brazil has a lot of attacking options available in the likes of Antony, Raphinha, Vinicius, Martinelli. Therefore, Tite did not pick him in Brazil World Cup 2022 Squad.
Reason behind Philippe Coutinho’s absence from Brazil World Cup 2022 squad
Philippe Coutinho was not included in the Brazil Squad for Copa America 2021 due to an injury. He missed the last Copa America after undergoing another knee surgery, according to national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar. Coutinho, 28, underwent surgery in early January to repair a torn meniscus and had another operation on the same left knee.
“I can say he won’t recover in time for Copa America,” Rasmer said.
The surgery was performed by Lasmar at his private clinic in the southeastern Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte. It was Coutinho’s third operation on the knee since January.
The Brazilian attacking midfielder has not played since suffering lateral meniscus damage in Barcelona’s 1-1 home draw with Eibar on December 29.
Coutinho returned to Barcelona at the start of the season following a year-long loan at Bayern Munich. He scored three goals in 14 games under Ronald Koeman before the injury.
Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho was dropped from Brazil’s squad for a pair of World Cup qualifying matches in November because of injury.
