Netherlands’ Coach Frank de Boer initially named a 34-man provisional squad for UEFA EURO 2020. The Netherlands Euro 2020 squad has now been trimmed down to its final 26-player selection.

Steven Bergwijn is the biggest casualty of eight axed players. A lack of playing time at Tottenham Hotspur for 23-year-old Bergwijn over the final months of the Premier League might have cost him the chance of making a breakthrough in the Netherlands Football Team for EURO 2020. Another big news remains that the Netherlands’ star defender and captain Virgil van Dijk will not be playing after missing all of Liverpool’s season through injury. It will be a major blow to the Oranje. Centre-back and captain Virgil van Dijk ruled himself out of contention last week, choosing to focus on finalising his recovery from an injury he sustained with Liverpool at the start of the season. Veteran goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who played in the 2010 World Cup fina was chosen as one of the three goalkeepers, ahead of Marco Bizot of AZ Alkmaar. Ajax’s defender Daley Blind made the cut despite an injury that has kept him on the sideline since March. Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is expected to captain the side in clubmate Van Dijk’s absence.

Netherlands will kick off their Euro 2020 campaign against Ukraine on 13 June in Group C that includes Austria and North Macedonia.
